I finally started to draw today. First I wanted to practice drawing the non-figure by doing a small drawing of 3 stones in graphite instead of metalpoint. This drawing is called Friendship/Supporters...I’m not so sure about the name and I feel like it will change in the future. I also did another drawing of 2 stones in goldpoint called Odalisque and homo erectus.

This is the room where my thoughts will converge into something (hopefully) beautiful. The midnight sun here is no joke especially since summer solstice is this month. Each day there is more and more sunlight. It may be hard to sleep at times, but at least I know the light throughout the “day” is pretty consistent!

Here are a couple words about the new idea and some images which have inspired me as I think about drawings I want to do in June. I leave for the airport tomorrow night so I must be ready to create a good amount of work!
The idea comes from Greek mythology, the impact of environmental awareness in Iceland, and the resurfacing of xenophobia after the recent election in the States. I try to talk about current events happening in my life as well as my own environment by using mythology as the filter.
Recently I have been trying to process current events through the lens of the Deucalion and Pyrrha myth. The myth talks of Deucalion and Pyrrha, his wife, who made mankind out of stones. The stones Deucalion threw turned into men and Pyrrha´s stones turned into women.

In 8 days I´ll be on the plane to Iceland and I cannot wait to be there again in the summer making new silverpoint and goldpoint drawings. It´ll also be nice to practice some Icelandic by talking to folks about my work!
