I am a part of history and I am a firm believer that all that has passed has affected me in some sort of way. I see it as a thread connecting one lifetime of thoughts, writings, and philosophies to another, more concurrent time where Greco-Roman civilizations are referred to only in the past tense.
Now, these thoughts, writings, and philosophies of the ancient world seem to be understood primarily by way of later writers, later painters, and later sculptors, but I would like to revisit antiquity. And live in it. Speak with them. Read what they write. Translate it even. And interpret it for myself.
I take in moments in classical literature and harness them until I can express what I feel in this day and age through Greco-Roman symbology and mythology. I want to challenge this idea of figurative realism and allow, instead, for the past to look at us in the present.
